The First Look - Yes or No?

Updated: Jan 31

There has been much debate over this topic for weddings! The more traditional weddings do not include a first look. The more modern weddings are absolutely for the first look!

Why or Why Not? There are lot's of reasons. . .

Pro's to doing A First Look:

  1. You will have that private, intimate moment together before you become husband and wife. You will have that moment where your soon-to-be husband will see you for the first time in your wedding dress and all the emotions that come along with it. It is a moment to soak in, feel all the emotions, and give your partner and yourself time to enjoy a private moment together before the ceremony.

  2. Not only will this moment be for you to have privately, this will give your photographer a chance to really capture this special moment for the two of you. This is a great opportunity for your photographer to capture more photos of you together as a bride and groom. Plus capturing your Groom's reaction to seeing you as his bride is so special.

  3. You get to take care of ALL the photos prior to the ceremony, which means you can dance the night away and enjoy being newly weds after your ceremony! Yes this includes all those wedding party photos and family photos too! That way you won't have to worry about taking a bunch of pictures right after your ceremony and holding up the party! Gives you more time to be able to enjoy the moment and let your photographer capture each and every detail!

  4. Typically seeing each other before the ceremony really helps calm a bunch of nerves before the ceremony. Being able to see your partner privately without anyone else around will help the both of you to relax and get all the nervousness out before the ceremony.

  5. Ensure you will have photos with your husband with all of your hair and makeup perfect! Doing a first look to kick off your photography will ensure your hair and makeup look the freshest for these intimate photos! Whereas, if you wait to see each other when you walk down the aisle or for pictures after the ceremony, your hair and makeup will have been on for the whole day and may have faded some.

CON's to doing A First Look:

  1. Your guests won't get to see the "First Look Moment". If you do a first look, your guests and loved ones will not get to witness the first time you and your partner see each other.

  2. Walking down the aisle won't be the first time you see each other all dressed up. you will have already seen each other prior to this moment.

  3. You will have to take the majority of your pictures after the ceremony. this will cut into your reception time and you will have to keep the entire wedding party and family for photos after- which may lead to hungry and impatient people.

  4. Typically seeing each other before the ceremony really helps calm a bunch of nerves before the ceremony. Being able to see your partner privately without anyone else around will help the both of you to relax and get all the nervousness out before the ceremony.

  5. You will have to start hair and makeup earlier in the day because photos will start prior to the ceremony. Unless you have a late ceremony, all photos will have to be taken throughout the day before the ceremony. This means a long day for the girls of your wedding party and photos lasting most of the day.

We hope this helps you with deciding on whether or not to do a First Look on your wedding day! Whatever you decide, its your wedding day and it will be filled with so many special moments regardless!

Sincerely your Wedding Bestie,

Wilson Weddings
